3 Must-See Views Near Banff

Banff, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, is a destination renowned for its breathtaking beauty and natural wonders. If you're planning a visit to this remarkable region, there are three must-see views that should be at the top of your list. From hiking to turquoise lakes, majestic mountains to scenic drives, here are 3 awe-inspiring sights near Banff you MUST see when you’re there.

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake: Awe-Inspiring Turquoise Waters

Lake Louise and Moraine Lake are undoubtedly two of the most iconic and picturesque destinations near Banff. The turquoise waters of these lakes, set against the backdrop of the towering Canadian Rockies, create a scene straight out of a postcard. These lakes, often referred to as the "Jewel of the Rockies," offers a serene and idyllic setting. Lake Louise is an easy first stop to view the most turquoise lake and mountainous view. Its stunning beauty is only matched by Moraine Lake, a hidden gem tucked away in the Valley of the Ten Peaks.

To reach Lake Louise, a short 40 min drive from Banff takes you to the heart of this natural masterpiece. As you stand at the edge of the lake, you'll be captivated by the vibrant hues of turquoise that seem almost surreal. The reflections of the surrounding mountains dancing on the crystal-clear waters create a symphony of colors that will leave you speechless. Parking by the lake may get crowded, especially during peak season, so I recommend getting there early in the morning to secure a convenient parking spot. If you get unlucky with the parking no worries, there is parking at the town near by where you can take the Roam bus to Lake Louise.

A visit to Moraine Lake is equally enchanting. To get to Moraine Lake, you’ll need to take a commercial or public bus during the summer or hike/bike up the road. Hiking will take around 3 hours one way, biking will take about 1 hour one way from Lake Louise. The deep turquoise waters, surrounded by towering Ten Peaks, is a view many people seek for when traveling to Banff. It's a place where you can immerse yourself in nature's embrace and appreciate the raw beauty of the Canadian Rockies.

Lake Agnes and Teahouse: Serenity Amidst Mountain Peaks

For those seeking a hiking adventure coupled with breathtaking views, Lake Agnes and the Teahouse are a must-visit. The trail leading to Lake Agnes is a scenic and invigorating experience, as you wind your way through dense forests, surrounded by the aroma of pine and the sounds of nature.

As you ascend, the anticipation builds, and upon reaching Lake Agnes, you'll be rewarded with a sight that's straight out of a fairy tale. It’s a lake you didn’t think would exist at a top of a long hike. Almost like a hidden sanctuary with where travelers and hikers stop for some rest and relaxation by the water. It's a place where you can pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate the wonders of nature while having a warm tea and some treats from the Teahouse.

From the Teahouse, a trail known as the Little Beehive Trail takes you to a top view that showcases the true grandeur of the surrounding mountains. The panoramic vistas of the Canadian Rockies, painted in shades of purple and blue, serve as a reminder of the vastness and beauty of the natural world. Icefields Parkway: Hector Lake View & Majestic Bow Lake

As you embark on a scenic drive along the Icefields Parkway, the journey itself becomes part of the experience. The winding road offers breathtaking views at every turn, and one stop that you simply cannot miss is Bow Lake. Bow Lake is a quiet lake to enjoy a sunset framed by the Canadian Rockies. The water slowly ripples and is a serene location to take a break from a long drive. Hector Lake is also along the parkway, but you can only see if from a view point. Still a beautiful view to look over the forest, mountains and lake at a distance.

We were able to see these views within our long weekend trip to Banff. Highly doable in a 3 day trip or spread out through a longer trip. Follow Monagram Moments on Instagram for more clips and videos from our trip to these spots!
